The Tournament

The Isreal-Strong Memorial tournament is an event hosted annually by the Presentation College Men’s basketball team. This event is held to honor two of our basketball student athletes who tragically passed away, Cameron Isreal and Terry Strong. These young men were killed in a car accident during the summer of 2015. This is the third year the Saints have held this tournament.

The Presentation Men’s Basketball team was able to top Oak Hills Christian in their first game. This allowed them to advance to the title game against Dallas Christian.

The Game

After a slow start in their first game of the tournament, the Saints came out firing. They were able to capture an early 15-2 lead over the Crusaders. This run was punctuated by back to back 3’s by Damien Luna, a sophomore guard for the Saints.

The Saints were would extend that lead to 21 later on in the half. This came off a 10-0 run by Presentation. This run was marked by another pair of back to back 3’s, this time coming from senior captain Mychal Deas. After that, the Crusaders were able to find their footing offensively. Dallas Christian was able to cut the lead to 17 by halftime.

In the second half, the Saints picked up right where they left off. Deas hit a 3 on the first possession of the 2nd half. This was followed up by back to back buckets from Tayton Maher, another sophomore guard.

The Saints also started to flex their muscles on the defensive end. They were able to hold the Crusaders to 5 points over a 7-minute span. This allowed them to push their lead to 33 with just under 10 minutes to play.

The Saints didn’t stop there either. They continued to pile on the points. Presentation claimed the Isreal-Strong Memorial Title with a 44-point victory over the Crusaders of Dallas Christian.

Mychal Deas and Jalloni McCorvey led the Saints in scoring with 23 apiece. Ange-Michel Kuo added 16 points off the bench. He was followed by Tayton Maher who added 15 points while going 3 of 4 from the 3-point line.

Deas also led the Saints in rebounding with 11. McCorvey and Kuo both pulled down 8 as well.

In assists Presentation was once again led by Deas who dished out 5. Vincent Eugene and Jahleel Stevens, a pair of freshman guards, each delivered 4 assists as well.

The Saints shot 61.5% from the field. They made a scorching 48.4% of their shots from beyond the arc while also shooting 82.6% from the line.
