New Saints at the Helm: Mari Cerenio-Jordan
By: KC Proctor
Many of the sports clubs on campus experienced a change in leadership over the summer. The softball team being one, now has first-year head coach Mari Cerenio-Jordan at the helm. The Saints softball team finished last season with a 10-18 record, which resulted in a 7th place finish in the NSAA. A wealth of returning experience, paired with a positive nature around the growing culture that is PC softball has Mari excited about the spring season. She mentioned that a major focus for the group this fall is team building. In her previous experience as a graduate-assistant/assistant coach at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, she claims to have learned the importance of chemistry within a team. Speaking highly of the work ethic exuded by returning players, Mari is setting lofty goals for the coming year. When asked of her expectations for the spring she said, “I would like for us to improve on our record and conference standing. Obviously the ultimate goal is nationals, but we need to do better in our conference before we can worry about that.” About “big picture” goals for the program, the new coach says that she would like to grow recruiting numbers and add depth in the future. For the here and now, however, the team coming together, its maintenance of a good-standing GPA, and improved success in the 2018 spring are the targeted goals. Energy and excitement are high around the Saints softball practices, and that is expected to grow and carry over into the coming season.
Lets Go Saints!
